Sometimes after you install a new app (especially third-party apps) you may notice it doesn't show up in Launchpad. There is a way to manually refresh Launchpad, which will most likely resolve the issue. Click on your desktop. Click on the Go menu. It's up on the menu bar at the top of your screen. Press and hold the Option key. Click on Library. OS X Lion includes a new feature for managing your apps called LaunchPad. Unfortunately, deleting apps from LaunchPad can be a difficult process. Deleting apps that you purchased from the App Store is a simple process but there are some apps, like Safari or Mail, that the operating system does not allow you to delete. Launchpad presents all of the applications in your Applications folder in a view that looks like the home screen of any iOS device. Launchpad for Mac OS X Lion is configurable, just like home screens on i-devices. You can rearrange app icons on a page, move them from one page to another, organize them in folders, and delete them. In the search bar, search for the application called 'Activity Monitor' and open it.

Launchpad is the iOS-like application launcher that came to Mac OS X with the release of 10.7 Lion.
I want to love it, but in its present format its not perfect. One of the biggest issues I face its that it has every application on my hard drive, 8 pages worth. Not only does it have all my main apps but as an example it has 18 different Adobe uninstaller applications as well.
Launchpad can also be difficult and inconsistent when deleting apps from it. Apps that where purchased from the Mac App store can be easily deleted by holding the option key and once the icons start jiggling click the “X” shown in the corner of icons that you want to delete. Be careful as this also uninstalls the app from your hard drive. However applications that were not purchased from the Mac App store cannot be removed via the UI.
